Prize Marcel & Paul Pescheteau of the “Amis du musée national de Céramique”
Starting in 2023, the Société des Amis du musée national de Céramique offers a yearly prize intended to promote research in the domain of ceramics and arts du feu. This prize aims at assisting a postgraduate student or scholar in the publication of a Thesis work which contributes to deepen knowledge in this domain. The work will be published by the Presses Universitaires de Rennes in their collection « Les Arts du Feu ».
The auction house Pescheteau-Badin permitted the implementation of this project in attributing a yearly dotation of € 8000 to this prize, called « Prix Marcel & Paul Pescheteau ». The Friends of the Sèvres Museum Society expresses its gratitude to the managing team.
For the 2023 session, a jury of professionals selected the thesis of Lucie Chopard among the 12 applicants. Her work is devoted to the collection built up by Ernest Grandidier at the end of the XIXth century and consisting in about 6000 far-eastern porcelain pieces. This collection was bequeasted to the Musée du Louvre and was tranferred in 1948 to the Musée Guimet, national museum of asiatic arts, in the « Galerie Grandidier ».
The Thesis of Lucie CHOPARD is entitled:
« La collection d’Ernest Grandidier au Louvre (1870 – 1915) : voir, comprendre, donner à voir la porcelaine chinoise ».
The prize « Prix Marcel & Paul Pescheteau » 2023 was delivered to the winner in the Eiffel Room of the Musée national de Céramique, Sèvres, on Monday December 18, 2023.
